CCTV footage captured moment girl was confronted by man on the street

A teenage girl was allegedly groped on her way home from school before running to a bystander for help. 

CCTV footage captured the brazen incident unfold along Will Street, in Melbourne‘s CBD, at 5.30pm on Thursday.

The man, wearing an air filtration mask, is seen walking behind the 16-year-old school girl.

Police allege he grabbed her by the buttocks and genital region before asking for her age and replying he did not care how old she was.

Footage shows the girl spin around and walk backwards as she faces the man.  

She then spots a passerby crossing at a set of lights further down the street.  

Leading Senior Constable Rohan Imms said the girl ran to the man for help before her alleged attacker fled.

Police allege the man also grabbed two 20-year-old women by the buttocks before trying to open his pants fly later that night.

They have released a description of a man they believe can help with their investigations.

He is described as caucasian with brown hair and was wearing a dark coloured vest over a light t-shirt.
